Moving an accounting firm off monday.com: what moves, what doesn't

Moving an accounting firm off monday.com to Mipp takes three steps. Export your client board from monday.com to Excel, save the client list as a CSV with one row per client and one main contact, and import it into Mipp, up to 500 rows at a time. Mipp then schedules each client's UK deadlines from the details in the file. Your updates, files, automations, extra contacts and task history stay behind in the monday.com export, so keep that file as your archive.

This guide is for small UK practices. It is honest about what doesn't move, and about the cases where monday.com is still the better fit. monday.com details were checked on monday.com's own site on 19 October 2026.

Why practices use monday.com, and where it gets hard

monday.com is a general work management platform. You build boards for whatever you need, and monday.com's own templates include a client management board. Its pricing page lists automations, integrations, a calendar view and guest access, so clients can see the boards you invite them to. Plans are priced per seat, and monday.com's pricing FAQ says plans start from 3 users. There is also a free plan for up to 2 seats with up to 3 boards.

That flexibility is the reason many practices start there. It is also where it gets hard. A board knows what you put in it. The UK rules behind each client's deadlines (the VAT stagger, the accounts deadline 9 months after a private company's year end, 31 January for Self Assessment, the 19th of each month for CIS returns) are yours to build and keep up to date, with date columns and automations. When a client changes their year end or registers for VAT, someone has to remember to change every date that follows from it.

Mipp starts from the other end. It is a CRM built for small UK practices, and it works out the deadlines from the client's details.

Step 1: export from monday.com

monday.com gives you two ways to get your data out.

Export a board to Excel. From the board's three-dot menu, choose More actions, then Export board to Excel. monday.com's help centre (last modified 8 October 2026) says:

Export the whole account. An account admin can download every board, and the files uploaded to them, as a zip file (help article last modified 13 October 2026). It can take up to 24 hours, the download link lasts 24 hours, and it doesn't include archived boards, workdocs, dashboards or the Emails and Activities timeline. monday.com suggests exporting workdocs to PDF first.

Do the full account export once, before you cancel anything, and keep it. That file is your record of the history that won't move. Then export your client board to Excel for the import.

Step 2: prepare one CSV for Mipp

Mipp reads CSV files, or rows pasted straight into the import window. It doesn't read Excel files directly, so open the export in Excel or Google Sheets, tidy it, and save it as CSV.

  1. One row per client. Make sure the heading row is the first row of the file, and delete any title or group rows above or between your clients. Subitems should not be separate rows.
  2. One main contact per row. Mipp imports one contact for each client row: first name, last name, email, phone and a contact status. Pick the person you deal with. Add anyone else on the client record after the import.
  3. Rename your columns to Mipp's headings. Headings are matched automatically, ignoring case and punctuation, and the import window has a template you can download with every column Mipp understands. The table below covers the usual monday.com columns.
  4. Up to 500 rows per import. If you have more, split the file and import it in batches. A client that is already in Mipp is updated, not duplicated.

Person, Owner, timeline and formula columnsDelete themNot imported. Mipp lists any column it ignores.

Step 3: import into Mipp

In Clients, choose Import clients and upload the CSV. Before anything is saved, Mipp shows a preview:

For an accountancy workspace there is also a box, ticked by default, that says the clients are up to date, so Mipp doesn't list deadlines that passed before today. Leave it ticked if your work is current.

When you import, Mipp creates the clients, their contacts and fees, and schedules deadlines for every client whose details you included, such as a year end, VAT, payroll or Self Assessment. Every date is calculated from the information entered using standard UK rules, so check them against HMRC and Companies House, as you would any calculated date.

Frequently asked questions

Can you export your clients from monday.com?

Yes. From the board's menu, choose More actions, then Export board to Excel. An account admin can also export every board and its files as a zip file. Save the client list as CSV to import it into Mipp.

Does a monday.com export include updates and files?

A board export to Excel can include updates on a separate tab, but not updates on subitems. Files come with the full account export, which doesn't include archived boards, workdocs, dashboards or the Emails and Activities timeline.

How many clients can Mipp import at once?

Up to 500 rows per import. For more, split the file and import it in batches. A client already in Mipp is updated rather than duplicated.

Can Mipp import more than one contact per client?

The import takes one main contact for each client row. Add other contacts on the client record after the import.

Is Mipp a monday.com alternative for accountants?

For a small UK practice that mainly needs client deadlines worked out and tracked, yes. It is not a general project management tool. It has no automation builder or client portal, and one sign-in per account.
