MippCRM

Mipp vs Karbon: which fits a small practice?

Karbon is one of the best practice management platforms there is, built for accounting firms that collaborate at scale. Mipp is not a practice management suite. It is a simple UK CRM for a practice of one to three people who mainly need a clean client list, a pipeline for new business, task boards and a way to never miss a filing deadline. Here are the differences, honestly.

Pick Karbon if...

You should genuinely pick Karbon when your firm collaborates at scale. Its email triage and shared inboxes are excellent, its workflow automation runs deep, and it adds a client portal, document management and a broad set of integrations. It was built specifically for accounting firm collaboration, and firms with several staff passing work between each other get real value from that. The trade-off is price and commitment: the Team plan is $59 per user per month billed annually ($79 monthly, and monthly billing requires four or more users), Business is $89 per user per month annually, and it takes proper time to set up and learn. One person on Karbon Team is about $708 per year before you have opened it.

Pick Mipp if...

Mipp fits a practice of one to three people. Its Accountancy workspace relabels the pipeline for a practice (Enquiry, Scoping, Proposal sent, Engagement & AML, Client), gives every client a kanban task board, and includes an 11-step onboarding checklist covering AML verification, the engagement letter, professional clearance, the 64-8 and MTD authorisation. The deadline tracking is the part sole practitioners tell us matters most: enter a client's year end, VAT scheme and stagger, payroll, CIS, Self Assessment, MTD and auto-enrolment details, and Mipp schedules 12 months of deadlines as tasks, from VAT returns and PAYE payments to P60s, P11Ds, corporation tax, CT600, annual accounts, confirmation statements, SA returns, MTD quarterly updates and CIS returns. A Compliance view shows overdue and upcoming deadlines per client, and a Monday email digest keeps the week honest. Deadline dates are a planning aid calculated from the information you enter using standard UK rules, not tax advice. On cost, Mipp Starter is £19 per month flat, £49 for up to three users, and the annual Starter plan works out at £190 per year with two months free. That is roughly a tenth of a single Karbon seat's yearly cost, with no contract and about two minutes of setup.

Switching questions

Can I import my clients?

Honestly: CSV import is coming soon but is not live yet. Today you add clients manually, which is quick for a small book, or email us and we will help migrate your data for you.

Is the free trial really free?

Yes. You get 14 days with full access. We take card details up front but nothing is charged until day 15, and you can cancel anytime before then and pay nothing.

Is Mipp really enough for my practice?

If you are one to three people, probably yes. If you are a growing firm that needs shared inboxes, a client portal, e-signatures and document management, it is not, and Karbon is the better buy. Mipp deliberately does not try to be a practice management suite, and we would rather say so plainly than sell you the wrong tool.

Does Mipp replace my email?

No. Karbon's shared inbox is one of its best features and Mipp does not compete with it. Mipp tracks clients, deals, tasks and deadlines; your email stays wherever it lives today.
